Seattle Seahawks' Edge Depth Increases with Acquisition of Trevis Gipson
In a move to bolster their depth at the edge position, the Seattle Seahawks have acquired outside linebacker Trevis Gipson from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a late round draft pick. This trade comes after starter Uchenna Nwosu suffered a knee injury that may keep him sidelined for an extended period.
Gipson, a fifth-year NFL veteran, entered the league as a fifth-round pick out of Tulsa with the Bears in 2020 and quickly established himself as one of Chicago's top edge defenders. His career highlights include a career-high seven sacks and five forced fumbles during his sophomore campaign. While his sack numbers dipped in 2022, he still made an impact with 11 quarterback hits and 30 pressures.
Although Gipson is only 27 years old, he brings valuable experience to the Seahawks' roster, having previously played for both the Chicago Bears and Tennessee Titans in addition to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his time with the various teams, he has also contributed on special teams, providing kick coverage during previous seasons.
With Nwosu potentially out for a considerable period, the acquisition of Gipson adds valuable depth to the Seahawks' edge defense and provides them with a versatile option who can fill in until their injured starter returns.
