Title: Swiss Defender Fabian Schär Announces Retirement from National Team to Focus on Newcastle United

Switzerland's national football team has lost one of its most experienced players, with defender Fabian Schär announcing his retirement from international football at the age of 32. The 32-year-old center-back has decided to concentrate on playing for his English Premier League club Newcastle United. Schär is the third veteran player on the Swiss team that reached the European Championship quarterfinals who have chosen to focus on club soccer. Along with Schär, goalkeeper Yann Sommer and playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri have combined to play more than 300 games for Switzerland.

Schär's last game for Switzerland was during the Euro 2024 elimination against England in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in July. He successfully scored his spot-kick in the shootout.
