Taylor Swift and CIA Praise Counterterrorism Efforts
Taylor Swift praised the efforts of counterterrorism teams in thwarting recent attempted attacks on her concerts in the United Kingdom. The pop star met with some survivors backstage in London and released a statement expressing her shock and sympathies to the families affected. The attempted attacks, which included one at a concert in Southport and another in Vienna, drew comparisons to a 2017 attack by a suicide bomber at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, that killed 22 people.
CIA Director William J. Burns also praised the agency's work in preventing the planned violence, stating that other counterterrorism successes typically go unheralded. Swift's record-smashing Reputation Stadium Tour is on hiatus until the fall.
